Compare fixture positions on a room plan

Use the lighting planner to draw walls and place symbols for ceiling lights, pendants, wall lights and switches. Moving those symbols makes alternative arrangements easier to discuss around furniture, entrances and different uses of a room.

This is a concept layout tool. It does not calculate lux, photometric distribution, glare, power demand, circuit design or regulatory compliance. The symbols show proposed positions; the 3D wall preview does not simulate the light those fixtures would produce.

Prepare the room and its activities

Begin with verified room dimensions. Draw the envelope and retain a reference showing doors, windows, work surfaces and furniture. Think about the actual tasks: a desk, dining surface and circulation route may need different lighting decisions.

Place the fixture and switch symbols, then move, resize or rotate them to keep the layout readable. Save the project before trying a substantially different option. The drawing is edited in your browser; downloading the project JSON is your checkpoint for reopening it later.

Example: a living and working room

For a 4-by-3-metre room containing a sofa and a desk, compare a central ceiling-light position with another arrangement that records a pendant above the seating area and a wall-light point near the work area. Keep the same room geometry while comparing the fixture locations.

Mark the proposed switch positions near the intended entry and review whether furniture blocks access. Do not treat a symbol beside a desk as proof that it supplies enough task lighting. The actual luminaire specifications, mounting heights, glare and control requirements need separate assessment.

Export a clear concept

Download SVG for a scalable diagram or PNG for a presentation image. Save project JSON for continued editing. Name each alternative clearly and inspect the exported copy before sending it: check the boundary, fixture positions, units and any notes explaining assumptions.

A useful review packet includes the measured plan, the concept layout and a simple list of the activities each area supports. Qualified advice is needed for installation, circuits and fixture suitability. Avoid presenting a tidy arrangement as a completed electrical design.

Coordinate the layout with the electrical planner, plan your room furniture, and read how to record windows before deciding which option to discuss.
